Do I need a referral?
Yes. You need a referral from your GP valid for 12 months for the particular condition you are being referred. Referrals from specialists only last 3 months. A referral is a requirement so you can claim a benefit from Medicare. Private Health Insurance is not applicable to consultations in rooms.
What documentation should I bring?
- A valid referral
- Your child’s Blue Book ( Health and Development record)
- Any test results that the referring doctor has organised (.e.g blood tests, xrays, ultrasound etc.) that are relevant for your visit
- Forms or questionnaires we sent you
- Letters or reports from other doctors, health professionals or your child’s school
- Your child’s Medicare card
- Any other information relevant to the consultation
What if I forget my referral?
Please contact the referring doctor and ask them to fax it to our rooms on 02 9540 5347. You need a referral for a medicare rebate, private health insurance does not apply to consultations in rooms.
What are the consultation fees?
Our reception staff will inform you of our fees and out of pocket expenses on the phone which will vary depending on the specialist or therapist you see and the type of consultation.
Rooms consultations attract a medicare rebate as long as your child is registered with Medicare.
Private health insurance may be applicable if your newborn was admitted to the Special Care Nursery or your infant or child was admitted to the Children’s Ward or had a surgical procedure.
The Medicare Safety Net if applicable may lead to your consultation attracting a much higher Medicare rebate (currently 85%) – our receptionists may assist you with this enquiry.
Payment is expected on the day of your appointment, we accept CASH, EFTPOS, VISA, MASTERCARD, AMERICAN EXPRESS.
Don’t forget to bring your Medicare card to your appointment. Your rebate will be automatically deposited into your bank account within 24-48 hours.
Do the Paediatricians run on time?
Usually yes. However, on call commitments at the various hospitals they attend can delay their arrival in the rooms. We will try to notify you of any delay when possible, but it is a good idea to call and check whether the doctors are on time.
